PHP on the Rise in the Enterprise

PHP has long established itself as one of the prevalent technologies used for building the web, but it has never gained much traction on the enterprise level being stigmatized as a child’s language in the world of programming languages, until now.
While Java isn’t going away, there are several trends converging on increased adoption of dynamic programming languages like PHP among enterprise developers, as [CEO of ActiveState, Bart] Copeland noted to me, calling them “the workhorses of IT and programming”...
The enterprise has long favored Java and .Net, but PHP and other dynamic programming languages have left their infancies and are rapidly closing the gap on their more stodgy competitors.
The big corporations and companies seem to be warming up to the use of PHP (as well as other open source technologies), opening up their big gilded gates to business with the small guys.
